Printer Setup in the Houk Group

• Houk group HP laser printers

  • Windows XP
    1. Go to "Control Panel" then to "Printers and Other Hardware"
    2. Under "Pick a Task" go to "Add a Printer"
    3. A window will come up entitled "Add Printer Wizard", click Next
    4. Now select the first option "Local printer attached to this computer" AND uncheck "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer
    5. Now select the second option, "Create a new port" and select "Type of Port" as a "Standard TCP/IP Port"
    6. This will open a new window for "Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard" click next
    7. For "Printer Name or IP Address" enter 169.232.140.220 (color printer 5440), 169.232.140.207 (B+W printer in 5440), 169.232.140.206 (B+W printer in 5234), or 169.232.140.205 (B+W printer in 5240)
    8. The "Port Name" should be filled in for you, just click Next
    9. The screen will say, "Completing the Add the Standard TCP/IP Printer Port" and you can click finish.
    10. Now you must enter the printer driver. Run "Windows Update" which will take a little bit of time gathering new drivers.
    11. Go to "Hp" and select HP LaserJet 4100 PCL6 for the B+W printers, HP Color LaserJet 4600 PCL6 for the color printer, and HP LaserJet 4050 PCL6
    12. Then you can name the printer what you would like. Personally, I like to name them "Houk Color", "MolSci5440" or "MolSci5240"
