The system has two cryostats, one within the other. The outer cryostat holds 14 liters of liquid nitrogen and the inner holds 4.3 liters of liquid-helium.

The nitrogen cryostat minimizes thermal radiation reaching the inner cryostat.

The consumption rate of the liquid helium amounts to about 90 ml/hr, which results in a refill time of about every 48 hr.
