Substrate mimic: A molecule (often a drug) that mimics an enzyme's normal substrate.

Sulfanilamide is a substrate mimic that inhibits folic acid biosynthesis because sulfanilamide has approximately the same shape, size, and electron distribution as PABA (the enzyme's normal substrate).
