Neighbor: In
NMR
spectroscopy, an atom within the same
molecule,
but other than the atom in question. Neighboring atoms may or may
not be
equivalent,
which is the basis for
spin-spin
coupling and
splitting
patterns. In general, the relationship between neighbors
becomes less important as the number of
bonds
between them increases. Metaphor: The people that live around you
are your neighbors. Your relationships with people who live close
to you are often stronger than with people who live further away.
