Investigational
New Drug
(IND): The FDA
program which allows an investigator (such as a pharmaceutical
manufacturer) to ship a drug
not yet approved for sale across state lines. This is often
required before clinical
trials can begin.
Without an IND application,
an investigational drug
cannot be shipped across state lines (for example from
California to Nevada).
With an approved IND
application, an investigational drug
can be shipped across state lines.
