Ammonia (1) NH₃. The simplest amine, and a modest base (NH₄⁺ pK_a = 9.4). When liquid (ammonia has bp -33 ^oC), occasionally used as a polar (ε = 25 at -59 ^oC) protic solvent for example in a Birch reduction.

(2) An aqueous solution of NH₃. This solution contains free ammonia plus ammonium hydroxide (NH₄^{+ -}OH).

Household ammonia	is the same as	laboratory ammonium hydroxide.
