Formaldehyde
is categorized as an aldehyde even though it does not have the
flanking carbon. An
aldose
is a
carbohydrate
containing an aldehyde. An aldehyde group can be abbreviated as
CHO.
'Aldehyde' is a contraction of '
alcohol
dehydrogenated'.
