Nitric acid:
HONO2. A strong Bronsted-Lowry
acid, commonly used as a non-nucleophilicproton
source and oxidizing
agent. pKa = -1.3 .
The term can also refer to an aqueous
solution of HONO2. When the concentration of HNO3
exceeds 86% the solution is termed fuming nitric acid,
because at this concentration fumes form above the solution when
exposed to air.
