Acylation: A reaction in which an acyl group is added to a molecule.

In this example of the Friedel-Crafts acylation reaction, benzene is acylated with acetyl chloride in the presence of AlCl₃ (a Lewis acid catalyst) to produce acetophenone. The reaction follows the electrophilic aromatic substitution mechanism.
